DS74 Firmware

Dec. 13, 2022 (version 0.6) - This DS74 rev5 code dmf IPL file is provided for layouts with excessive voltage pickups on the DS74 input lines. This will manifest as false Output changes or Route triggers when no other activity is occurring with a DS74 on a powered Digitrax layout. This HF noise coupling may occur on long runs of input wires that are too closely spaced with other noisy e.g. track lines. Most of the tens of thousands of DS74 installs likely do not see this occasional issue. It is suggested that on layouts with HF-induced noise causing false output or route triggers, that the DS74 needs to run with: (1) this DS74_rev5_13dec22.dmf code or later , with (2) OPSW44 = Closed to disable CP1 led drive, and (3) each input paralleled with 0.01uF to 1uF input caps to ground to shunt HF noise voltages. Interfering induced voltage is generally AC/capacitive and exceeding about +\- 3V peak to peak into a hi-Z 127K resistive load, to falsely trip the DS74 input sensing logic. There is no practical additional firmware filtering that can remove this impressed and unpredictable HF noise voltage. OPSW44 = Closed in this rev5 code disables the CP1 led drive out, so that needed input capacitor filtering of 0.01uf to 1uF can then be used with the 50Hz input sampling rate. The CP1 led drive enabled (OPSW44 =T, default) does NOT cause this false trigger because input-sampling is synchronous, but having this led drive active does not allow filtering capacitors to be used on long noisy input runs. DS74 Rev4 or earlier code does not have OPSW44 CP1 led disable implemented. The default OPSW44 = T is configured for CP1 LED drive and switch sensing to run OK with the capacitance of about 250' of Cat5 UTP cable into the DS74 127K input impedance, but this UTP does not provide strong capacitive screening of HF pickup. Shielded twisted pairs (STP) may work better for just this usage, but would be limited to about 30% of the run length. Digitrax typically specifies only UTP or silver-satin cabling of LocoNet because STP shield capacitance drastically lowers total network wire distance, and loads are very different to DS7x inputs.

SE74 Firmware

June 23, 2023 (version 0.3) - This SE74 rev3 code dmf IPL file is provided for layouts with excessive voltage pickups on the SE74 input lines. This will manifest as false Output changes or Route triggers when no other activity is occurring with a SE74 on a powered Digitrax layout. This HF noise coupling may occur on long runs of input wires that are too closely spaced with other noisy e.g. track lines. Most of the tens of thousands of SE74 installs likely do not see this occasional issue. It is suggested that on layouts with HF-induced noise causing false output or route triggers, that the SE74 needs to run with: (1) this se74_rev3_11jan23.dmf code or later , with (2) OPSW44 = Closed to disable CP1 led drive, and (3) each input paralleled with 0.01uF to 1uF input caps to ground to shunt HF noise voltages. Interfering induced voltage is generally AC/capacitive and exceeding about +\- 3V peak to peak into a hi-Z 127K resistive load, to falsely trip the SE74 input sensing logic. SE74 Rev4 or earlier code does not have OPSW44 CP1 led disable implemented. The default OPSW44 = T is configured for CP1 LED drive and switch sensing to run OK with the capacitance of about 250' of Cat5 UTP cable into the SE74 127K input impedance, but this UTP does not provide strong capacitive screening of HF pickup.

Series 7 Decoders

Aug. 14, 2023 (version 1.0) - This new IPL file is configured to adjust this Series7 sound decoder to more closely match the prior Series6 default CVs, and performance settings. CV57=6 and CV2=0 are main new defaults when a CV8:8 factory reset is performed after IPL download. After IPL of these new version(s), write CV8 to 08 [as decoder factory reset], then a read of CV253 [IPL version] will now be 04. A completed IPL will not modify any CV default or current settings, so your decoder settings are not modified to reflect this new IPL version until you write the value of 8 to CV8. You can do this write with a Service Mode or Mainline Program write. A CV8:8 Factory reset will set CV60 scheme number to 0 and then update any scheme-configured CVS for scheme 0 in the SDF for the loaded sound project (.spj file). If there is room in the sound flash, you can re-load just the SDF control file for a sound project without reloading all the matching .wav sound fragments. If you have a multi-scheme .spj project, any write of CV60 to a valid available scheme number will reload that scheme, and execute any scheme-configured CV values. CV10 on Series7 decoders allows adjustment of motor Back EMF sensitivity for motor performance variations. A value of CV10=0 is default, CV10=32 will speed up the motor by about 50% and CV10=70 will slow it down by about 50%. Usable range is 32 to 70. CV133 sets the Steam chuff cam rate for "scale mph" based on a "driver" size. [valid range is 8 to 127] . Default value is 60 or a 60" driver chuff rate, which further depends on the real gear ratio from the dc motor to driver for your model. This dmf for IPL version 4 now allows the Gear Ratio defined in CV134 to range from 6 to 199, over a denominator of /32. So the chuff rate may be changed in a range of 6 /32 to 199/32 (x6.2), giving an expanded control range. This ratio is multiplied by CV133/60 to derive the final chuff rate for your model. Both CV133 and CV134 combine to affect the chuff rate you choose. Digitrax Series7 8-scheme projects/.spj's use a nominal CV134 value of 16 to adjust for the two cam channels in use for steam chuff generation. ...read more

UR93 Firmware

Aug. 31, 2021 (version 0.1) - UR93 Setup and Operation: 31Aug2021- IPL-version 1, Improved UR92 inter-operation timing margins and locking Channel and NetName. 1) Like all Duplex units, the UR93 is configured with a unique 8 character Digitrax Duplex NetName and a RF Channel number from 11 to 25. Any Duplex throttle unit trying to access LocoNet with a particular UR93 must have exactly matching NetName and Channel number as the UR93 it is trying to use for Duplex connectivity. Any differences will break a duplex link. 2) UR93 and UR92 units will automatically invoke a NetName and Channel resolution protocol when a LocoNet Power On <83><7C> message is seen or it is powered up. On some layouts, usages, configurations and combinations of UR93's and UR92's, if this resolution is unsuccessful the UR93 or UR92 may suddenly seem to freeze or stop working on an untethered; UT4D, UT6D, DT402D, DT500D or DT602D. 3) To avoid connection problems, after you setup required UR93's Duplex settings to run the layout, best practice is to set OPSW11 =C to turn OFF Channel Changes and OPSW12= C to turn OFF NetName Changes. This will ensure the Duplex settings cannot be modified in operations, and the UR93 will then not be involved in NetName and Channel resolution. 4) To subsequently edit system Channel/NetName you will need to temporarily set OPSW11/12 back to T to allow changes. 5) A UT6D or DT602D plugged into LocoNet with UR93 and UR92 units can conveniently edit NetName, Channel and also Key settings of any units that allow changes of these settings. Press menu>3>6 and follow the prompts. You may also use the free Digitrax Duplex Setup PC application to do the same thing. 6) Any Duplex enabled throttle plugging into LocoNet will use the first Duplex Channel and NetName received. If there are differing sequential values of these seen, it may lead to some confusion. 7) For remote joining, or diagnostic purposes, with untethered UT6D or DT602D units you may invoke the Duplex RF Scan capability with menu>3>5, and then the soft key "Scan All". After the scan time, you will see a list of Digitrax Duplex beacons visible from UR93 and UR92 units, so you can be sure what is currently available, look for any unexpected setting changes, and also can then use a soft key to join a visible network. 8) In a system with mixed UR92 and UR93 units, the UR93 have about 33x more transmit power and also about 33x higher receiver sensitivity and so longer beacon range. Duplex throttles track and change to beacons of the same Channels and NetName with the strongest RF signal, so most throttles will usually track the beacons of UR93 units. Duplex links are "connectionless", so a single UR93 can handle an "unlimited" number of duplex throttles' RF traffic sequentially. 9) It is recommended that all UR93's be updated with the latest IPL on the Digitrax web site. The latest UR93 IPL version has improved legacy UR92/Duplex timing tolerances and also implements a new IPL-version number that will uniquely identify the IPL version related to the IPL date code, when using the DigiIPL II v2.9.1 downloading utility program. An IPL_ver number of 0 means the current UR93 installed firmware does NOT support IPL-version capability. Downloading the latest UR93 firmware will enable IPL-version display ...read more
