The World's Greatest HobbySM Announces the
Seventh Annual "Take a Model Train to Work Day"
On Friday, November 16, 2007
Waukesha, WI - On Friday, November 16, 2007, model railroaders across the country will add trains and tracks to the watercooler conversations when they bring their favorite locomotive or other hobby artifact to work. Launched in 2001 by Model Trains: the World's Greatest Hobby, Take a Model Train to Work Day kicks off model railroading's high season, culminating in the December holidays.
Take a Model Train to Work Day draws on the grassroots volunteerism behind the Model Trains: the World's Greatest Hobby campaign to stimulate interest in model railroading. At offices like the General Motors Design Center in Warren, MI, Take a Model Train to Work Day has become an annual tradition, with dozens of employees participating every year.
"There is no better advertising for model railroading than the 500,000 American adults who spend $500 million annually on the pastime," said Model Railroader Editor Terry Thompson. "Take a Model Train to Work Day encourages them to voice their passion for model trains and spark conversations with their colleagues and friends about ways they can get involved."
Model Trains: the World's Greatest Hobby enjoys support across the model railroading world - from large manufacturers and hobby shops to local clubs and individual hobbyists. Whether you are a beginner or a lifelong enthusiast, interested in classic toy trains or the latest digital innovations, the World's Greatest Hobby can put you in touch with your inner conductor.
More than 800 model train clubs and 800 hobby shops participate in the outreach program. More than 1,200 model railroaders have volunteered as Ambassadors to discuss the hobby with community and civic organizations, aided in their presentations by a video starring actor and enthusiast Michael Gross.
Participants are encouraged to send photos and success stories from Take a Model Train to Work Day to The World's Greatest Hobby, Attn: Kelly Christopher Shaw, P.O. Box 1612, Waukesha, WI 53187-1612 or to kshaw@kalmbach.com A selection of submissions will be published in the WGH bi-monthly newsletter and in affiliated magazines.
