These are the basic DT400 operating instructions designed to get the new user “up and running” quickly and to minimize your “frustration level” as you learn to use the throttle.

ENGINE SELECTION

Place locomotive on the track.

  • Turn the throttle knob you want to run a loco on slightly counter clock-wise letting the controller know you want to address that side.
  • Push the “Loco” key
  • Select the number of the loco by pushing the keys (1, 2, 1, 8 for #1218 or 3 for 03)
  • Push either “Enter” or “Loco” to lock the address to that throttle
  • Repeat the same procedure to put another loco on the other throttle.

Do not put the same address on more than one throttle.

MU OPERATION

Place the two or more units you wish to MU on the track.

  • Select the lead loco on the right side throttle
  • Select the loco to be added on the left side throttle
  • Make sure all the locos in the consist are traveling in the same physical direction on the track (both going to the left or to the right)
  • Push the “MU” key
  • Push the “+” key
  • The lead loco now controls both locos
  • To add additional locos repeat steps 2 – 5 above
  • To remove a loco from a consist (MU) select the loco you want to remove on the left throttle
  • Push the “MU” key
  • Push the “-“ key
  • That loco is now out of the consist (no longer MU’d)

Note: While MU’d you can control functions only in the “trailing” units by selecting their number on the left side throttle and turning the functions (lights, etc) on/off. You will not be able to control the loco, however.

PROGRAMMING

Place the loco on the program track

  • Push the “Prog” key
  • Make sure “Pg” is displayed in the bottom center of the display
  • “AD2” should be displayed on the left side of the screen
  • If you want a two digit address (1-127) use the right knob and select the number you want to program the loco to
  • Push the “Enter” key
  • If successful you should see “Good” and then the number you selected
  • If you want a four digit address (128 & above) push the right knob down one time and “AD4” should appear in place of “AD2”
  • Use the keys to select the number you wish to program the loco to
  • Push the “Enter” key followed fairly quickly by the “Y” key (this changes CV 29 to enable the four digit address for you)
  • If successful you should see the number you programmed in the display
  • Push the “Exit” key to get out of Program Mode.

NOTE: To program CVs (other than addresses) with “AD2” displayed use the left knob to select the CV # you want and the right knob to select the value you wish to give that particular CV, followed by “Enter”
